This version creates a 1 bit GIF image with optional transparency and a maximum size of 64 x 64 pixels. Although the image is only 1 bit the two colours do not have to be black & white. The resulting GIF file will be the smallest size possible. My main interest was with the LZW compression, starting with a 1 bit image to keep it simple. But that's as far as I got. With only two colours it is limited, maybe of use in creating small library symbols in a drawing app. Most of the code is easy to understand, just gets a little complicated around part of the LZW compression algorithm. Lots of helpful comments on the GIF file format.

  1. Re-scan downloaded files using your personal virus checker before using it.
  2. NEVER, EVER run compiled files (.exe's, .ocx's, .dll's etc.)--only run source code.
